Our area of Nevada is known for brush fires. We had a dry-lightning storm during the first week of school that started this beauty right across from my home. This is the view from my front porch. Thankfully, the wind drifted away from all the homes, and our wonderful firefighters kept the damage to only about 300 acres.
I have a student-teacher this year who is planning some great activities for our class. Here are her milk carton totem poles to emphasize the culture of the American Indians of the Northwest Coast.
And, finally, one of my favorite activities from my days as a first grade teacher...making words. I'm offering my Halloween edition as a freebie. Enjoy!
Totem poles are a great creative Social Studies learning activity for all ages. Love the "frog".

Once a Teacher, Always a Teacher
The frog was my favorite as well. One kid made a pretty impressive 3-D eagle!
DeleteLove the totem poles! We've just started our Eastern Woodland Native American unit. Your wildfire pictures terrified me, and the mountain picture made me envious. In Connecticut, we have no really impressive mountains! Have a good week.

Laughter and Consistency
We feel pretty lucky to live 15 minutes from the mountains here, but we're not nearly as green as Connecticut.
DeleteThat fire looks scary but the mountains look beautiful! Looks like your student-teacher is off to a good start! :)
ReplyDeleteThe totem pole project looks great! I bet the kids really enjoyed it. Thanks for linking up!
